Our time in Haiti has been full of new people, new adventures, new challenges, new experiences, and learning lots of new things!
We arrived November 5th, 2016. Miss Kim, the director of Mission of Grace greeted us and showed us to our room which is on Miss Lynn's family property right on the beach!
We started to get oriented to all that mission of Grace had to offer that first week, from the school and church, to the elderly home and medical clinic. There has been so much to take in, adjusting to a full time missionary lifestyle was not easy, but God has truly blessed us by the people that are also serving with Mission of Grace. He has also given us grace for the ministries we began serving in.
Darla's focus was primarily in the Medical clinic. She worked with the Haitian staff as a nurse, seeing patients when she can with a translator. She loved meeting with the pregnant women and teaching more about breastfeeding and how to care for their children. She has been able to prevent the deadly disease pre-eclampsia numerous times. She has also been working administratively in the clinic, helping it run more smoothly, and she visits the residents in our elderly home, loving on them and treating them as well.
My role has been primarily community pastor as I go out into the community multiple times a week. I have been able to get to know the community well with a translator and also on my own as I grow in speaking creole. I also serve in the church, leading the Men's bible study every week, as well as having the opportunity to preach once a month.
It has been an amazing experience for us and we are so thankful God has been taking care of us as we serve.
